Asylum Pictures was established in 1998 in Edinburgh, Scotland by Robin MacPherson and Paul Kenny.

Robin (left of photo) began his film-making career with Edinburgh Film Workshop Trust (EFWT) where from 1989 to 1997 he produced a wide range of documentary, current affairs and EWFT's first drama production, 'The Butterfly Man', earning a BAFTA nomination for Best Short Film in 1996.

Leaving EFWT in 1997 to establish Asylum Pictures he produced the Tartan Short 'Duck' and undertook consultancy for a wide range of organisations before joining Scottish Screen where from 1999 to 2002 he was in charge of script and project development. Robin was also Executive Producer of the thirteen-part Documentary Series 'This Scotland' for Scottish Screen, Scottish and Grampian Television. Returning to Asylum in June 2002 he is once again Producer and Managing Director.  

Alongside producing Robin is also a Senior Lecturer in Film Production in the School of Design and Media Arts at Napier University (www.napier.ac.uk/dama/screen) where he is Programme Leader of the MA in Screen Project Development and MA Screenwriting. From 2003 to 2005 he was Project Director of Media Masters Online – a European Social Fund supported project to adapt Masters programmes for distance learning on-line delivery - and is currently Acting Director of the Screen Academy Scotland, one of only seven institutions in the UK to be awarded Screen Academy status by Skillset and the UK Film Council.

Paul (right of photo) was formerly Director of Tax (1989 to 1997) with KPMG Accountants and Management Consultants in Edinburgh. Now trading as Paul Kenny Ltd., (www.paulkenny.biz) he provides taxation and business advice and consultancy to clients in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, and oversees Asylum's Business Affairs.
